VOGALONGA

This will occur the day after we leave...

VOGALONGA – 24th May, Venice Taking to the Venetian waters on the 24th May will be a large gathering of boating participants for the annual Venetian event, Vogalonga. Vogalonga was started in 1974, originally as an alleged protest by the local rowing clubs against the rising number of motor boats. Today, the event is a lot more good natured, with local rowers and private boaters coming together to take part. The course spans 32 kilometres and covers the San Marco Basin, the Island of Burano, the Grand Canal and Punta della Dogana. -

Take a ride down the Grand Canal.

Hoping we will take a side trip to Murano for the glass blowing factories, and to purchase some beautiful handmade beads

Memories of Venice

As I prepare the final stages of planning for the Study Abroad trip, I recall wonderful memories of Venice...

Here is the room of our honeymoon in 2003, on the Grand Canal... SO amazing...

We had a double balcony and sat an watched and listened to the sounds of the city.

When I was 16, my sister and I shared a room on the Grand Canal at the Danieli...
on the night of the full moon.

This is where I had breakfast for 3 days...http://www.danielihotelvenice.com/en/gallery

and our room overlooked the Grand Canal on a night of the full moon.

I will definitely take students here... but I doubt we could afford an espresso these days...

When I win the lottery, I will stay here again...

Venetian Glassblowing

I will take my VSU students to the Island of Murano where we will watch some glassblowing in the factories and have an opportunity to shop. I especially like the little bead shops, PSU students, remember that glorious shopping day we had???

See the article above for a view of some new chandeliers.

And here's a You Tube video.
